How Kind of You
By Debra Jo Chiapuzio
I use to hear story about people who did therapy work with their dogs.
They took the time out of their lives to visit those they didn't know in hospitals, homes and other special facilities.
And when I did have a chance to meet one of these human/animal teams I said, "How kind of you."
Then I became the handler of a therapy dog.
I went to place to visit people I didn't know in hospitals, homes and other facilities.
And I heard it being address to me, "How kind of you."
I was sort of confused as to why people say this.
For now I realize it isn't kind of me, it's selfish of me.
I do it because being witness to the bond that animals share with humans;
only add to the happiness I already have in my life.
I do it because I have met the most wonderful people along the way.
Those from all walks of life, with different values, different believes, different humor, different thoughts.
You can't imagine experiencing and learning so much.
The elderly that are the best. It is the oldest we should listen too. Years of wisdom. Years of knowledge.
They know what matters. THEY make ME smile, not the other way around.
It is the children, magical and free of what age brings,
simplicity that has enriched my life.
It is not how kind of me.
It is how fortunate I am to be a part of this!
